After the death of my grandpa Nic in Milano because of this apparent virus, I wrote him a tribute letter for a funeral which never happened. Writing about his story made me realise what a courageous life he lived. He lost both his hands during WW2 at 16 years old but he lived until 90, raised 3 kids, from greengrocer to photographer, to be commended Knight of the Republic of Italy.
I promised myself to keep my head up as I know he would want me to and stopped torturing myself about the idea I couldn´t say goodbye to him.
As soon as I applied that mindset, an Anthem of Freedom manifested.
Back in 2016 I had written a chorus during my depression, it gave me strength and hope but never found the lyrics for it and abandoned the song.
Fast forward 3 years and the lyrics manifested during this lockdown, after my loss. I decided to publish the song with a multi-screen video of friends around the world (91 people and 15 "actual"animals from 33 countries) - I thought it was a great excuse to connect despite the distance and the surreal times we live in, the perfect metaphor for this anthem of strength - people united in creativity, transcending pain and confusion, with the wish of spreading good vibes, courage and unity.
This GLOBAL-existential-collective-ecological wake-up-call made us realise we can help each other, connect and change things for the best.
It´s not utopia anymore.
A small act or personal change can make a big difference.
Change begins within ourselves.
People together have the power to change things for the best, every living being deserves a decent life. This life is a gift to anyone.
